So a philodendron Splendid or a hybrid of Verrucosum x Melanochrysum has lived at my place for about 7-8 months so far and it has been nothing but struggling for the first 6 months. I didn't grow at all. It didn't die but didn't do anything for me as well. My bad was that I neglected it, I didn't pay much attention, rarely watered it and that was about my care.

It's winter and I moved it from one window to another where the most of sunlight hit the plants now and forgot about it. Last month I stumbled upon my Splendid and noticed a new leaf. It was almost uncurled and I have no idea how did I miss it.

My first leaf from the Philodendron Splendid

In the background, you can see the Syngonium Albo and Syngonium Chocolate, and my start, the Pink Beauty too. I have 7 Syngoniums in my collection and I love them all. The most underrated plants IMHO.

So it's been like two weeks, I have looked at my Splendid again and then boom, the new leaf came in suddenly and not only this but also with another one coming.

The beauty of new and old leaves of the Philodendron Splendid

So in my experience, all philodendrons tend to sit still for a long period of time and then give you growths so fast that you can't keep an eye on when it's happening.

A few facts about the Philodendron Splendid

It is a wining plant so when potting it, provide a moss pole or room for it to trail. I like it when the plant has a pole, the new growth gets bigger. It is native to Ecuador. If you care for the plant the right way, its leaves will become large.

Philodendrom Splendid care:

Lighting 🌟

Bright indirect sunlight. A perfect spot: north or east-facing window.

Watering:

Wait until the soil dries out almost completely, only then water it. Never overwater the Philodendron Verrucosum x Melanochrysum.

Fertilizing:

Fertilize your Splendid during the spring months to fall, once every month.

Temperature:

Temperatures should be between 55°(13C) -80°F(26C).

Humidity

Doesn't really care about high-level humidity. If environment humidity is below 40%, make use of an indoor humidifier.

Soil:

Provide well-drainage soil for the roots to have space to grow.

Propagation:

By the stem cutting.

My Philodendron Verrucosum x Melanochrysum care does not take much to be honest. How to care for the Philodendron Splendid? I have no idea.

My tips are:

  1. For faster-growing give it enough sunlight
  2. I fertilize mine about once in two weeks
  3. I water it when the soil is completely dry which happens more often when it gives new growths
  4. Love it but do not over shower it with your attention

What Did You Do Wrong With The Philodendron Splendid? A no-no for it is:

  1. Overwatering. It does not do well in a constantly wet soil
  2. Too bright light. The plant loves bright indirect sunlight. When too much sun, gets leaf burns.
  3. Too much of your love. It's better to leave the plant alone and not dance around it every day. The rule is: look but not touch haha.

1. Why my Philodendron Verrucosum x Melanochrysum leaves become yellow?

Yellow leaves is a common sign of overwatering.

2. Why the leaves are crispy and have brown tips?

The leaves become crispy when you either not water it enough or it is getting too much sign. Fix your watering routine and remove the plant from the sunlight in a more shadowish place.

3. The plant has necrotic spots

It is a sign of bacteria. When the plant sits in a saturated soil for too long it causes bacterial infection. Dry the soil and treat your plant with a fungicide.

So this is it. Nothing much to add except for how my thoughts of it changed over the last few months. I did kinda hate it at first but now look at this beauty! I love it so much

And here is one of my favorite memes :)
