Monstera
Punctulata
Monstera, like many other indoor plants, has rare specimens, and one of these is Monstera Punctulata. This is a rare species in most of its range and this plant is a climber that grows up to 15 m in nature. But such a plant is not uncommon in the limestone regions of central Petén.
Monstera Punctulata is easily recognizable for a number of features such as its bright green leaves with a soft texture.
The stem of the plant is brown, fibrous, and roughly lumpy. It should also be noted that the petiole has thick white spots and a brown, lumpy crankshaft. The length of the petiole is from 30 to 55 cm.
Next, you need to examine in detail the leaf plate, it has a shape from ovoid to oblong-ovoid and bright green in color and there are protruding white lateral veins on it. As for the texture of the sheet itself, the sheet is soft, not glossy, its length is about 60-120 cm, and 35-60 cm will be the width of the sheet.
It is a flowering plant and when fruits appear they are usually dark green.
Membranacea
Monstera Membranacea is a very distinctive and easily recognizable species, although it may seem different to you. This variety has at least four unique characteristics.
So the first is a leaf plate and it is very thin and membranous, in young plants it is somewhat swollen. The leaf shape of such a Monstera is ovoid, heart-shaped at the base, about 40-50 cm long, and its width reaches 25-32 cm. The second is that the veil descends to the peduncle by about 3-8 cm.
The next sign is the fruit, it is green with a deciduous stellar part, in order for the seeds to open, they are in the bright orange pulp. And the last of the four signs are seeds. Seeds of this type of Monstera have the shape of a sphere with an S-shaped seam, this seam eventually forms a protrusion on the surface. The seeds are about 6 mm long.
Another thing to add about this cultivar is that the young Monstera Membranacea is similar to the young Monstera Siltepecana, but there are certain features in adulthood that separate the two species.
Adansonii
Monstera Adansonii or as many people used to call it the Swiss cheese factory, originally from the rainforests that stretch from Costa Rica to Brazil. It is known for its unique appearance and is one of the favorite houseplants, belonging to the Araceae family, just like Monstera Siltepecana.
This vine grows up to 8 m in its natural environment.
The leaves of this species are their main distinguishing feature. The leaves are ovoid in shape, about 20-25 cm long, and their width will be somewhere 15-40 cm. Often they have a form with an expanded lower part. What else can be said about the leaves is that the leaf blade is thin and has numerous neat holes on it. These holes are irregular and give the plant a unique and airy look. But new, young leaves will not have as many holes as more developed ones. And for such a perforation, Monstera Adansonii was nicknamed pierced.
Not surprisingly, many homeowners like to add a touch of South America with this houseplant, and thankfully this Monstera strain is relatively easy to maintain.
Filamentosa
Tuberculata
Monstera Tuberculata, perhaps this is the Monstera you've been looking for. This Monstera is a very interesting plant with amazing leaves that lie flat and twine around whatever they climb. The roots of this plant are fertile and strongly nestle against various posts and even against concrete walls if the opportunity arises.
These are large climbing tropical plants with a well-developed root system, but they start out small, but eventually, the leaves reach 3 inches.
You should be aware that the growth rate and color of Monstera Tuberculata leaves are highly dependent on the conditions you create, such as soil type, sunlight, and other factors. If all the conditions are met, then you will observe how quickly your plant grows. And you will also see that the leaves are tightly attached to the support of bright green color and their shape is more rounded.
So, Monstera Tuberculata is an unusual variety, and it will easily decorate your garden when it covers a certain area like shingles.
Deliciosa Var Sierrana
Another rare tropical aroid is Monstera Deliciosa Var Sierrana. It has large decorative leaves with multiple holes and cracks along the edges. In a natural environment, this plant climbs trees, wrapping its aerial roots around a trunk or any other support.
Deliciosa Var Sierrana is very similar to everyone's favorite and familiar Monstera Deliciosa, the only difference is the size, Var Sierrana is smaller. And by the way, this species is actually a hybrid and is considered a variety of Monstera deliciosa. By the way, the Deliciosa Var Sierrana variety is often used in flower arrangements, because Deliciosia is larger. It is also grown as a houseplant in the open air, the main thing is to prevent the plant from freezing.
A great option would be if you plant your Deliciosa Var Sierrana at the base of a palm tree or the trunk of a tree, and then this vine will climb up, adding a tropical look to your garden.
Pinnatipartita
Next on our list, Monstera Pinnatipartita is a rare evergreen from South America that looks like Monstera Deliciosa. Florists call her one of the most beautiful Monsters.
Its young leaves are short, lanceolate, and pronounced dark green veins are visible on the leaves, and due to this, the leaf plate looks corrugated. With age, the leaves of the plant become completely separated.
Every year, Monstera Pinnatipartita is able to bloom, and its flowers are snow-white, and the inflorescences resemble corn. All this gives such a tropical plant a very amazing decorative look. This evergreen vine is capable of conquering anyone.
Tenuis
Have you heard of a species like Monstera Tenuis? This is a rather rare liana-like Monster variety; it is also a fairly compact liana with thin stems and amazing carved leaves.
Young newly formed leaf plates are initially solid, or slightly dissected, but in the course of development, they become openwork.
And when Monstera is already mature, then she becomes very effective, and her advantage is that she is quite unpretentious in care, but at the same time it grows slowly. Of course, you can help speed up its growth a little by providing adequate lighting and high humidity.
And as it grows, and the growth of the plant is vertical, the leaves become larger and stay at a distance from the trunk of the host tree on thick petioles. Another interesting feature of Monstera tenuis is called leaf heterophyllia. This means that on the same plant, the leaves can be different in length and width, and even in shape.
Dissecta
When you come across Monstera Dissecta, you can easily recognize it by its regularly pinnate leaves. These leaves are located in a tightly pressed head at the apex of the stem. This species can be easily distinguished from Monstera Tenuis and Monstera Spruceana by the following characteristics:
- bulging leaves when they are still young
- a peduncle that exceeds a flowering ear
- leaves that adhere tightly to the top and petiole
In addition, in these two other species, the auricles begin almost at right angles to the rib, while in this species of Monstera Dissecta, the auricles usually arise at an angle of 30-70 degrees. Further, one more thing can be noted regarding the differences, Monstera Subpinnata differs from Monstera Dissecta in that the auricles in the first species are narrowed at the base and rise at a large angle, and the pistil has the shape of a cone, and not truncated, like in Dissecta.
Monstera Dissecta is an epiphyte, terrestrial liana, reaching 10 m in height. The leaves are convex, erect, ovoid, they are about 3-5 times longer than wider. The texture of the leaf blade is leathery, glossy, and slightly uneven, and the base is pointed.
The stem of an adult is green or brown, smooth, its thickness is about 1.5–3.0 cm, and its diameter is 2.0–4.0 cm. The petiole is smooth and approximately equal to the length of the leaf plate, or slightly shorter.
Lechleriana
Monstera Lechleriana is a tropical liana-like plant known for its split leaves and fertility and is a popular houseplant around the world.
This cultivar has ties to the popular species Monstera Adansonii and has some similar traits.
Monstera Lechleriana has very interesting foliage. Its foliage is glossy, green in color, and has the characteristic forked leaves. Compared to Adansonii, Lechleriana leaves are slightly larger and often have holes near the central vein. When the plant rises in height, then its mature leaves usually bloom.
This kind of unique species can be considered easy to grow and does not need the excessive hassle, and even Monstera Lechleriana is growing rapidly. This tropical monster will thrive in bright light and regular watering. You should also remember that a young Monstera may look completely different from its mature form.
Praetermissa
Obliqua Yasuni
If you are interested in this article, then you may be a fan of leaky broadleaf indoor plants. And here is another representative of the Araceae family and this is Monstera Obliqua Yasuni. For most people, it is just a houseplant with holes in its leaves.
Obliqua Yasuni is not the only representative of the Obliqua group, and it should also be noted that there are several plants in the Obliqua group, and most of them have large holes in the leaves.
This Monstera can reach a maximum height of 20 inches. But some of the species, when mature, can reach a height of about 15 feet, and their trunk is about 2 mm thick.
You may be interested in the fact that you can make them grow as you see fit. After all, young plants in the juvenile form are usually bushy and compact, but when the plant develops and turns into an adult plant, then hanging vines or thickets of climbing plants are formed.
Monstera Obliqua is generally a slow-growing plant. It's a little strange, but this is one of the reasons for some people why they are usually considered houseplants.
Siltepecana El Salvador
Monstera Siltepecana El Salvador is a rare subspecies of Monstera Siltepecana but popular with collectors and has beautiful large green textured leaves. This plant is naturally capable of climbing a totem, or you can leave it to form its lush hanging basket.
El Salvador has silvery leaves with distinct, well-visible veins of bright green color and, over time, their leaves grow in size and become larger, this is quite typical for Monstera.
It must also be said that caring for the plant is not difficult, like most Monstera, it just needs a warm and brightly lit place. And if you still provide support, then it will grow to a staggering size.
