Ceropegia is commonly known as string-of-hearts but it is only one of the varieties. According to Wikipedia, there are 68 species but we will talk about the most common ones that you can see and get. A Ceropegia is a wining plant, easy to care for, and is easy to propagate. The plant blooms in household conditions.

A Ceropegia is a succulent and carrying tips for all varieties are the same. Remember to give it enough sunlight, a warm temperature, and never overwater.

The general care tips are:

  • Lots of sunlight. All succulents love sunlight and a Ceropegia is no exception. The Variegated species need it even more.
  • Let the soil dry out completely. It doesn't stand overwatering, The soil should be completely dry between waterings.
  • If the leaves get smaller or the steam longer, chop the plant. You can plant it to the main plant for a bushy look.
  • Humidity: Ceropegia is comfortable in most household settings. It does not require high humidity.

String-of-hearts (Ceropegia) Woodii vs. Variegata

String-oh-hearts or Ceropegia Woodii is the most common plant. There is also a variegated version, the Ceropegia woodii variegata.

The variegation version is the same and looks very similar except for the pinkish shade of the leaves.

The string-of-hearts plant has heart-shaped leaves that's where the name comes from. Its leaves are heart-shaped, 1-2 cm wide, and long. When there is enough light, they take on a dark green color, and when there is insufficient light, the leaves are pale green. It is an evergreen succulent hanging vine capable of growing up to 3.9 inches in height and reaching 6.7 feet - 13 feet in length.

The variegated version looks very similar to the Standard one but has a rosy shade. The more sunlight it gets the brighter leaves to become.

Do you want something unusual? So what about silvery heart-shaped leaves? The string of Hearts Silver Glory has these silvery leaves with a darker edge and may have a purple blush on the underside.

Ceropegia Silver Glory is a succulent and is also a tuberous evergreen perennial plant with long, hanging shoots with succulent, heart-shaped leaves.

Like the rest of Ceropegia, Silver Glory is a hanging plant whose vines can grow to two or three feet in length. Its flowers are almost odorless, small, and of a peculiar brownish-pink hue.

Ceropegia Woodii Durban – String of Spades

There is a chance that you have never met a Ceropegia Woodii Durban.

But it must be said that this plant is very similar to the simple Ceropegia Woodii. The stems are hanging and long and over time can reach 1 m or even more. So the leaves are pink on the back and silver with green markings on top. The colors will be brighter if the plant is placed under lots of sunlight.

Since the foliage of this Ceropegia is very similar to Silver Glory, in order not to confuse these species, take a closer look at the marks because they are more pronounced and the shape of the leaf, as mentioned above, is pointed.

Ceropegia Durban is an elegant hanging plant that is relatively easy to maintain.
